'Recreation Aids', Moderation, and Me

I know, I know, the boilerplate answer for a blog like this is 'don't drink, don't smoke pot, treat your body like a temple'. The thing is, I don't think most people really work like that. Getting into a fitness routine is intimidating enough without having to change all your other habits. Now, drinking too much is pretty bad for you, and too much THC will make it hard to get out the door to the gym, that much is very true. But if you like a social drink or take a gummy to unwind after a tough day, you don't have to go cold turkey to get going with a fitness routine!

For myself, I haven't had THC in a while, but my go-to are edibles. Now that they're legal in my state, I can order one and enjoy it on my cheat day, when I don't care so much about overeating or being a bit lazy. I used to take gummies after the gym in college, but after a while I saw the number on the scale ticking up, and I started to oversleep pretty often. I would demolish party sized bags of cheese doodles, potato chips, and pork rinds and laze around in my dorm all evening. Sure, I slept well, but boy was it hard getting up at the crack of dawn to run or lift!

As for drinking, I went to my fair share of parties in college. Alcohol does things to me. I get loud and kind of obnoxious, to be honest! I also let my 'wild side' come out more...let's just say there is some absolutely mortifying cell phone footage of me playing drinking games out there! My drink of choice is beer, which is pretty much the worst for an athlete or bodybuilder to be loading up on. I only drink socially now, and I don't really go to parties anymore.

So, yeah! The name of the game is moderation! Don't bring your life to a screeching halt to get fit, use fitness to make your life better! Be well, everyone!
